Opening
Hey [Their Name]? Hey [Their Name]! It's [Your Name]! How's it going today? I see you were looking for health insurance quotes. Were you looking for just yourself or for your family as well?

Okay, what has you looking for coverage? Did your premiums go up? Did you lose coverage? What's your situation?

Alright [Their Name], as an advisor, my license gives me access to every plan in the state. I will pull up all of your options, and we will compare the best plans with the major insurance carriers.
Educate
So, outside of employer plans, there are two ways to get full health coverage. The first way is based on income, which is the public marketplace, known as Obamacare, and the other is the private market, which is based on your health.

Okay [Their Name], now how is your health? Are you relatively healthy? Any medications prescribed in the last 12 months? (If yes: any other medications? What medication, for what condition? Taking it for how long?)

How about major pre-existing conditions, hospitalizations, back issues, or surgeries in the last ten years?

Do you smoke? YES / NO

Now, [Their Name], is there anything else that you haven't mentioned that may show up in your medical report? I just want to make sure that anything pre-existing is covered.

Power statement
Okay, [Their Name], based on the information you've given me and (your/family's) low-risk health history, I can definitely put you in a great position moving forward regarding your health coverage. It's a simple process, and I just need some quick information.

So, I have your Zip Code as __, and your DOB is __? And what's your estimated height and weight? Okay, [Their Name], here is where I need your help the most.

Only ask questions that have not been answered yet:

  1. How often are you going to the doctor, and what kind of doctors do you go to?
  2. What are the names of any specific doctors you would like to keep in-network?
  3. Do you have any upcoming procedures or treatments?
  4. Are you looking for Dental and Vision as well?
  5. When are you looking for a policy to begin?
  6. And, [Their Name], what do you do for work? (rapport-building question)
Frame
Okay [Their Name], so once we find the best solution, we'll submit a free application for the start date of your choice. Applications consist of basic demographic information, the start date for your policy, and a valid form of payment information, obviously. Does that approval process make sense? Okay great!

Now, I'm starting with the Public Marketplace plans. Have you had a chance to look at Obamacare yet? (If they are currently on a Marketplace plan, locate it to discuss briefly.)

4 Β· Show Your License
This is a copy of my license for the state of [XXX] that allows me to shop all your options. Whatever plan you choose, I will become the licensed advisor that sticks with you for the policy's lifetime. I will handle your customer service, claims, or anything you need!
5 Β· Marketplace
Click on Health Sherpa page
Remember, there are two ways to get full health coverage. One is the public marketplace, which is based on income, and the other is the private market, which is based on health. Now, let's start with your plans on the public marketplace, and then we'll pivot to the private plans that I believe are a better fit for you.

The least expensive plan in your area on the Marketplace is starting at $____ a month with a $____ deductible.

Now, are you familiar with how deductibles work? (EXPLAIN ANYWAY) A deductible is the amount of money you must pay before the plan pays any benefits for you. For example, if you are on a plan with a $10,000 deductible, you must spend $10,000 out of your pocket before that health insurance plan starts to pay any benefits. Does that make sense?

Also, this is an HMO or EPO. Do you know the difference between EPOs, HMOs, and PPOs? (EXPLAIN ANYWAY) HMOs and EPOs are smaller restricted networks that typically only give you coverage in the county you live in, and you need a referral to see a specialist. So, most people prefer PPOs because they are covered nationwide. No referrals are needed to see a specialist.

So [Their Name], someone healthy, like yourself, is probably never going to spend $10,000 in a year on medical expenses, so I don't think a plan like this will be in your best interest, wouldn't you agree?

Quickly go over a Gold-level plan and show one with a lower deductible β€” higher premium:

If we try to get that deductible down, I do see a plan here with a deductible of $___, but now our premium is jumping up to $____/month.

So, [Their Name], these plans are intended for people with major pre-existing conditions or low income. Now, because you are relatively healthy, we CAN look at some private options. If you can qualify based on your health β€” you'll get lower rates and much better benefits.
6 Β· Presentation β€” Health Coverage Summary
Open Health Coverage Summary
Now, when I am looking at the private options, the plan I see with the best value, based on what we've discussed, is on the UnitedHealthcare Choice Plus PPO network coming in at $___ a month, and this DOES come with no calendar-year deductible. For the right type of benefits, would this price point work for you?

Have you heard of UnitedHealthcare, [Their Name]? They are the largest and most accepted network in the nation.
Search doctors on PPO network portal
Let's take a look at the in-network doctors and hospitals in your area. (Show all primary-care options and hospitals, THEN look up their doctor.) Are there other providers you would like me to look up for you?
Click back to Health Coverage Summary
Now, because this plan is based on your health, Freedom Life, a UnitedHealthcare company, underwrites it. They're the ones who are going to check to make sure you're healthy and determine your eligibility for coverage. Have you ever applied for private, medically underwritten health insurance before?

Okay, now let's look at the plan details. You have no calendar-year deductible to satisfy. You will also have built-in doctor visits, urgent-care visits, and chiropractic visits. If you don't use them, you won't lose them β€” they roll over year after year!
Click on EOBs β€” show two
So, the way your plan works is when you go to the doctor, you show them your insurance card, get your treatment, and walk out paying nothing. The doctor's office then sends the bill to the insurance company to apply an in-network contracted rate, which typically reduces the bill between 40–80% and applies your fixed plan benefits for your visit. Next, you will get an explanation of benefits in the mail with a visit breakdown. Let me show you an example:
1st EOB β€” show free visit
As you can see β€” my client went to the doctor. Total charges for this visit were $___. Now, because they went to a doctor or facility that's in-network with UnitedHealthcare Choice Plus PPO, they received an in-network contracted rate that took off $____. Then, they applied the benefit amount for the services you received, which was $___. So, excluded charges are all that you would be responsible for, and as you can see, my client was not out of pocket anything for this visit.
2nd EOB β€” specialist visit with a charge
Now, not all your visits are going to be free. Here is an example of a specialist visit where my client did have a small out-of-pocket cost. Here, my client went to the doctor, and the total charges for this visit were $___. Again, you will see the in-network contracted rate taken off first, then they applied the benefit amounts for the service they just received. So, the excluded charges are all you would be responsible for, and my client was responsible for $___. If you have anything out of pocket, it usually amounts to a small co-pay. Does that make sense? (Quest Diagnostics or LabCorp are the preferred labs for this policy.)
Wellness
Now of course, you have coverage for preventative-care visits. Things like your physicals, lab work, and immunizations. If asked β€” (Women) Pap smears, mammograms, etc. (Men) PSA tests, colonoscopies.
Accidents
Now, let's say you have something happen outside of a regular doctor visit, such as an accident. Your worst-case scenario for any accident or injury will result in a $250 deductible. It doesn't matter if the accident is $5,000 or $50,000 β€” your worst case will be $250, and the insurance company takes care of the rest! Pretty simple, right? Perfect.
Premier Med β€” highlight $3,000, then 100%
Now let's say you have something even bigger happen, like a catastrophic event. God forbid you have cancer, heart attack, stroke, or a major hospitalization. You will have access to upgrade to your $3,000 deductible, with 100% coinsurance for covered services. So whether your bills amount to $50,000 or $5 million β€” your worst-case scenario is only $3,000. Is that clear?
MedGuard
This plan includes a critical-illness benefit that will satisfy your deductible, so your worst-case scenario for a covered critical illness would result in NO out-of-pocket expenses. Plus, the remaining benefit ensures you don't have any financial stressors while out of work dealing with a medical hardship.
MDLive (association states only)
Alright β€” lastly, your plan comes with MDLive, which gives you unlimited calls to a LIVE doctor 24/7, where they can diagnose you as well as send a prescription to your local pharmacy that you can pick up, typically within the hour, without you even walking into the doctor's office β€” such as antibiotics, steroid creams, or eyedrops.

Explain the 3 things not covered

Now, there are 3 things that this plan will not fully cover β€” 1) Drug and alcohol rehab, 2) Severe or inpatient mental health, and 3) Maternity care… so none of these things will be an issue for you, correct? Okay great!
Recap
Just to recap β€” this is a nationwide PPO plan on the UnitedHealthcare Choice Plus network. You have no calendar-year deductible for your everyday services, a $250 deductible for any accident or injury, and your WORST-CASE SCENARIO would be access to a $3,000 deductible with 100% coinsurance! That's it!

Okay, so at this point, what questions do you have for me? (Address all questions confidently, then move directly to the closing statement.)
Email the Health Coverage Summary through EZ App β€” click Health Coverage Summary, click Include Quote, type the email address, click Email
7 Β· Close & Application
Closing statement
Alright, so here's what will happen next, because you do have to get approved… We're going to submit your application electronically to the insurance company. Applications consist of:
  • Basic demographic information
  • The start date for your policy
  • A valid form of payment information, obviously
  • Most importantly, medical questions, which will determine your eligibility for coverage. There is no bloodwork or physicals to be done β€” they look at your prescription history and medical report to help them make the underwriting decision, and there's a quick verification call to confirm your information.

Okay [Their Name], the start date for the policy was ____, correct? (As soon as approved, or the date the client selected in pre-qualifications.) This is the first day your policy will be active and the same day your monthly premium will be drafted.

Okay, so you are covered for critical illnesses on this policy. If something critical were to happen and you did pass away, the funds would be paid to a beneficiary. Would you like to list a spouse, child, or estate?

(After asking about beneficiaries:) Also, once you're approved for this plan, you're actually pre-approved for life insurance at $____ for only $___, or $____ for $____. Pause. Which one would you like to do?
Page 7: Association β€” click Next
Page 8 β€” medical questions
So we're down to the last three pages of the application. First is the medical questions that will determine your eligibility for coverage. Next is your banking information, which is your routing and account number β€” you can find that on a check, banking app, or statement. Lastly, we will schedule your verification call so the insurance company can confirm all the information on this application is accurate.

Now, here are the medical questions we are going to review together. Remember, we will schedule a time for the verifiers to call you afterward. They are very selective about who they will accept.

(At the medication box:) The first question here is: in the last 12 months, have you been prescribed any medications? Other than what we've already discussed, are there any other medications pertaining to pain, muscle relaxers, ADHD, anxiety, depression… anything like that? (After inputting their prescriptions, ask again: anything else you can think of?)

Example: Escitalopram, taken as prescribed for three years. Mild, controlled anxiety β€” Dr. John Smith, PCP.

Now, I'm going to read you the medical questions. These questions pertain to your health history, so if you have taken EVEN a single medication one time for any condition listed below, please let me know, and we'll talk about it!

Example of a "YES": Mild anxiety, no therapy or psychiatric treatment, prescribed 2020–present, Dr. John Smith, PCP.
Payment / banking page
Alright [Their Name], now this is where they will verify the account you'd like your monthly premiums drafted from, starting on (EFFECTIVE DATE).

What is the name of the bank you're using? You can go ahead with the 9-digit routing code when you're ready. (If they can't find it: it's the first 9 digits on the bottom left of a check.) Alright, and the account? (Click "same as primary" for billing address.)

(If they ask about credit card:) Absolutely! You can use a credit or debit card if you would like, but the only drawback is they do charge you about 10% more, and they also process payment immediately upon approval. If you choose this method, you will need to call in to the insurance company on time each month to avoid losing your coverage. Most people use their routing and account for this reason. I'm ready when you are.
V-Call schedule page
Okay, now we will schedule your verification call. The next availability is ______. Does that work for you? Perfect.
8 Β· Before Submitting β€” V-Call Prep & Referrals
So, lastly, I will take a few minutes to prepare you for this verification call to ensure the process and approval go smoothly. They will call you within a 15-minute window of when your call is scheduled. The call will last 15–20 minutes, depending on your answers and the verifier.

I will text you their contact information to save shortly. Please make sure to save this so the call does not get blocked by spam filters. The first thing they will do is introduce themselves as the verifier for Freedom Life, a UnitedHealthcare company.

They will validate your basic information β€” name, payment, start date, etc. It's a little boring, but hang in there. They will also verify that I (Your Name) am the licensed agent you spoke with.

One of the first things they will cover with you is that this is not a Minimum Essential, ACA, or Obamacare plan. It does not provide full coverage for the 3 things we went over: drug and alcohol rehab, mental-health care, and maternity coverage.

Most importantly! They are going to verify those medical questions that we went over in the application. These verifiers are just following a script. Keep it short and simple.

Now remember, they are not authorized to answer any questions about your coverage. If you do have any, just write them down, and you can text or call me after. If you start asking them questions, they will stop the call, and we will have to restart the whole process again.
Recap questions if need be
They will ask if you've tested positive for COVID-19 in the last 90 days. That's a no, correct?

Toward the end, they will ask if you have any upcoming appointments for treatment or symptoms to check on. No, correct?

They are going to make sure you know there is a 30-day waiting period for preventative wellness visits β€” for things like physicals, pap smears, and colonoscopies, wait 30 days so you can receive wellness benefits.

They'll mention a 12-month wait period on pre-existing conditions that are not disclosed on the application.

Lastly, they will ask who has your most recent medical records. We can list your primary care or a local walk-in clinic. They will not reach out to the facility β€” they just want to know that you have been to a doctor in the last 5 years.
With positive energy!
You will be receiving an email shortly from US Health Group, which is a private UnitedHealthcare company that offers these medically underwritten plans. It will include the policy documents and the verification-call information. After that call, there is nothing more you need to do. I will track it all for you, and I will let you know the good news when you are approved. Remember to save the verification-call number that I am sending you right now. Please let me know when it is saved into your phone! (Send the verification-call contact card.)

Do you have any questions for me? Now, before I let you go β€” my business is primarily based on referrals and building relationships with my clients. Who else do you know that needs help with their health insurance?

Okay great! I look forward to working with you, [Their Name]. Have a great day. Talk to you soon!

2026 Objections

Every common pushback and exactly what to say. Open the objection you're hearing.

“I got it taken care of…”
Okay, perfect! That's honestly going to make things a lot easier! I'm sure you've gotten a ton of phone calls… right?

I totally get it! I know how frustrating that can be. I'll go ahead and close out your file. Just so I can update everything correctly, who did you end up going with: Blue Cross, United, Cigna, Aetna?

Great! Was this through your employer, marketplace, or the private market? (Go to the matching category below.)

If they say: “Why does that matter / that's none of your business!”

I only ask because you're getting a bunch of calls… right…? I would love to help slow those down for you. At the moment, it shows you have no coverage at all. So, who did you end up going with… Blue Cross, United, Cigna, Aetna? Great! Was this through your employer, marketplace, or the private market?
…They went with a Marketplace plan
Great. Were you able to qualify for a subsidy based on being low income? (Let them respond.) Okay, what is that plan running you a month?

If the cost is high, REACT and ask: "How many family members are on the plan?"

(Prospect's Name), it doesn't make any sense for you to be paying that much unless you have major pre-existing conditions! Have you ever heard of private, medically underwritten insurance before? (Let them respond.)

If you can qualify for these plans, you will receive reduced rates and better benefits for being in relatively good health!

…Back to script: "Educate" β€” do NOT ask income, skip to Health.

…They have employer coverage
Okay, perfect. Honestly, that is probably going to be the best fit. Typically, they are going to pay at least half of your premium, and most times, you can't beat the coverage. From my experience, when you start to add on spouses and dependents, those rates can tend to skyrocket. Is that your situation?

…Back to script: "Educate" β€” do NOT ask income, skip to Health.

…They bought a short-term (private) plan
No wonder your file is still open! You have enrolled in a short-term plan. Were you only needing coverage for 30–90 days before enrolling in a major medical option? (You should know the carrier by now.)

(If YES or NO…) A short-term plan is usually more affordable while maintaining a PPO network, but it does leave you financially exposed to major medical bills because there is no true max out-of-pocket. Also, they can drop you from coverage during the reset period every 30–90 days. But, what is that plan running you a month? (Let them respond.)

(Prospect's Name)! For about the same cost, you could have qualified for full-coverage plans with reduced rates and better benefits, just for being relatively healthy! Let me ask you this: would you consider yourself in good health? Any medications prescribed in the last 12 months?

…Back to the Health section of the script.

…They joined a health-sharing plan
No wonder your file is still registered as being uninsured! I would assume that you chose a health-sharing plan because it was more affordable than all the other options you looked at, right?

I would also assume you are in good health and haven't had any major claims on that plan, correct? (Prospect replies with a no.) Well, that's a good thing!

(Prospect's Name), I don't think you were aware of the health-based plans in your area that provide you reduced rates and full coverage for about the same price as a health-sharing plan. What's that plan running you a month? How many people are on the policy?

If you can qualify, the type of coverage you would have wanted is called medically underwritten insurance. Qualifying for it is based on having a decent health history. How is your health, though? Any medications prescribed in the last 12 months?
“You're the 100th person to call me!”
Hey (Prospect's Name), I'm sorry to hear that! I'm sure by now you've already gotten it taken care of… haven't you?
If yes
Yeah, that's super frustrating! I'll go ahead and close out your file. Just so I can update everything correctly, who did you end up going with: Blue Cross, United, Cigna, Aetna? Great! Was this through your employer, marketplace, or the private market? (…back to their specific "got it taken care of" situation above.)
If no
Honestly, I should have been the only one reaching out to you… I'll do my part to help stop these calls! Now that I have you for a second… what had you looking for coverage in the first place? Did your premiums go up, did you lose coverage… what's going on? (…back to script.)
“Who do you work for…?”
Absolutely, that's a great question! My license allows me to access all of the major carriers, such as BCBS, UnitedHealthcare, Cigna, and Aetna. It really depends on what's available in your area and what you're looking for. My job is just to help educate you on all of your options, publicly and privately.

So what had you looking for coverage to begin with? Did your rates go up, did you lose coverage, what's going on? (Back to script.)
“Just email me the info”
Absolutely! I actually have to email you over everything that we go over. There are between 60–80 different options in your area.

What I like to do is take a couple of minutes and narrow them down to 1–3 options that suit your situation based on making sure your doctor is in network, you like the deductibles, the rates, and co-pays. (Back to script where you left off.)
“I'm busy”
Okay, no worries! You're probably getting a million phone calls, and I'm sure by now you've probably gotten it taken care of… haven't you?
If yes
I'll go ahead and close out your file. Just so I can update everything correctly, who did you end up going with: Blue Cross, United, Cigna, Aetna? Great! Was this through your employer, marketplace, or the private market? (…back to their "got it taken care of" situation.)
If no
I mean… now that I have you for a second… what had you even looking for coverage to begin with? Did your premiums go up, did you lose coverage… what's going on? (…back to script.)

If they are ACTUALLY busy β€” book the appointment

I only ask because I have access to every plan in the state, so I'll get quotes together that we can review at a later time. So, when would be a better time for us to speak? (Let them hear you check your schedule.)

Does this afternoon, or this evening work better? Okay, so I have ____ and ____ available today β€” which time works best for you? (Let them counter if neither time works.)

Perfect. Before I let you go, let me just confirm some quick information so I've done my homework before our appointment β€” I have your zip code as ____? And your DOB as ____? And do you have any pre-existing conditions that you need coverage for? (React positively.) (Prospect's Name), it sounds like you are in really good health! I think you will qualify for exclusive plans that give you reduced rates and better benefits!

I'm going to text you now from my personal number, so you have my contact info. Please save my number and confirm with an "Okay" so I know you've received my text. I'll shoot you a 60-minute text reminder before our call to confirm that you will be on time. Sounds good?

Perfect β€” now what is the best email to send a calendar reminder to? I'll give you a quick call at ____ AM/PM to review options; if for any reason something comes up, please communicate with me so we can respect each other's time. I look forward to helping you then!

You'll be getting an email from USHealth Group to set up your online account. Once you create your password, you'll be able to manage everything about your policy. Your ID cards will be mailed out and should arrive in 1 to 2 weeks. There's nothing else you need to do at this time.
Gratitude
More importantly, I just want to thank you for trusting me through this process. I'm grateful we had the chance to connect and get you in a great spot with your coverage. If there is anything you need regarding your plan, give me a call or shoot me a text β€” I'm here to help.
The referral ask
Now, as I mentioned, most of my clients connect me with their friends or family members who they want to help get affordable coverage as well.

The cool part is, when someone you refer gets approved, I will send you a $100 referral bonus β€” via whatever method you prefer: Zelle, Venmo, Cash App, totally up to you.

Here's what makes it super easy: most of my clients just introduce us in a quick three-way text. That way, it's simple, and I can take it from there.

Who's the first person that comes to mind you want to help?

(After that) Great β€” and who else are you thinking about?

(NO) Okay, no worries. Let me know in the future if there is anyone you think of!
Close
Thank you (NAME). Remember, I'm here for anything you need. Please do not hesitate to contact me. I look forward to speaking with you soon. Have a great day!
